Simone Hammer, Editorial Intern.

15.04.2024
Gavaghan Communications, publisher of Science, People & Politics ISSN 1751-598X, welcomes Ms Simone Hammer to an editorial internship..

Ms Hammer has 20 plus years international managerial publishing experience for Thomson Reuters, based in The Netherlands, the UK and Germany. She holds an undergraduate degree in German law from the University of Heidelberg (1994 to 1998), and has postgraduate legal qualifications, entitling her to register to practise law in Germany. Her A-level equivalents are Latin, German, Maths and social sciences, comprising politics and humanities. Ms Hammer is a native German speaker and fluent in English (estimated bilingual by Gavaghan Communications).

During her short internship, Simone aims to gain introductory-level insight into the elements of writing and editing for publication internationally, from an editorial rather than managerial perspective. The internship is overseen by Helen Gavaghan - Editor of Science, People & Politics. Topics covered at introductory level will include: types of intellectual property included in digital and print publishing; tasks needed (research, editing and writing) and considerations relevant to producing an item of English-language written work for publication internationally; types of non-fiction, written editorial items (news, features and comment); types of illustrative material; publication, section and website layout; legal deposit.

As a vehicle for exploring internship topics Simone will contribute to an IP stocktake and copyright assignments of content in Science, People & Politics to date.

Ms Hammer holds a professional certificate in outsourcing (2014) from the National Outsourcing Association (NOA), now Global Sourcing Association (GSA).

She is an associate member of the Association of British Science Writers (ABSW).
