Fire and the ballot box

When I turned off the TV,
500 thought they would wake
In their bed. Safe.

At three I slept
As a woman told the world
Through facebook,
She was trapped.
Flames under the door.

It was six when I came to
With Today talking of
A major incident.

Ten minutes before caffeine
Kicked in the doors of consciousness.
A few more to turn on the iPlayer
And watch,
Numb, and number.

How many other secrets is
The ballot box guarding?

How many deaths
On social media?

Was that what the cat knew?
Serene on the doorstep.
